Marina Raytchinova

is a scenographer and visual artist, Head of the Department of Scenography at the National Academy of Art, Sofia. Since graduating from the National Academy of Art (1985), Marina designed sets, costumes, and lighting for over 180 productions for theaters in Bulgaria, the USA, and Russia.

Marina has been a faculty at the University of Tennessee, USA, as well as a guest professor at design schools around the world. As Chair of OISTAT Education Commission, 2004 – 2012, and member of OISTAT EC, 2013 – 2021, she has been active in the organization of Scenofest and the Beijing Biennial of Stage Design Schools. 

Marina’s work has been exhibited at Prague Quadrennial, WSD Gallery exhibits – Toronto 2005, Cardiff 2013, Taipei 2017, Calgary 2022, as well as at Costume At The Turn Of The Century Moscow 2015, USITT – Phoenix, USA (2006), personal exhibits in Moscow (2013), Sofia (1999), Vienna (1992).

Some recent awards that she received for her work are the National Award Ikar 2016 for the set and costume design of Eurydice in Underworld, Drama Theatre – Plovdiv, National Award Askeer 2018 for set design for Frankenstein, City Theatre Sofia, National Award Ikar 2021 for costume design for Tiffany, DTP, National Award Askeer 2022 for costume design for Silk, DTP and many more.
