Hannah Schwartz
Hannah Schwarz is a Scenographer who graduated from the National Academy of Art in Sofia in the class of Associate Professor Nikolay Nikolov in 1978. In her long professional life, she has created numerous performances working with the best directors in the Drama and Puppet theaters: Theater 199 Valentin Stoychev, Satirical Theater Aleko Konstantinov, Rhodope Drama Theater Nikolay Haytov in Smolyan, Sofia Puppet Theater, the puppet theaters in Burgas, Plovdiv, Yambol, Vidin, Sliven, theaters in North Macedonia, Serbia, Russia, Turkey, and others. She also collaborates with independent theater companies including the Pro Rhodope Art Center, Smolyan, and the Theater Thempo, Ankara. She is awarded numerous Bulgarian and International theater prizes.
In her work, she is in charge of the whole process leading to a new performance. She is responsible for setting the tone of sharing and creativity and for creating the visual-flexible and spatial, functional language of the theater performance.
For over 40 years she has worked as a professional artist. Between 1983 and 1992 she was a scenographer at the Puppet Theater Department and from 1993 until 2002 she was a tutor at the National Academy for Theater and Film Arts (NATFA) in the discipline of Scenography for Puppet Theater. Periodically she is a co-organizer and curator of large scenographic exhibitions and projects at NATFA, the Gallery Rayko Aleksiev, the Union of Bulgarian Artists; the Prague Quadrennial for Scenography, and many others.
