Nikolina Kostova-Bogdanova

Nikolina Kostova-Bogdanova is a Painter who works in the field of Scenography and Costume Designing for Theater and Opera. She is a graduate of the National Art School Dimitar Dobrovich in Sliven; in 1993 she graduated in Applied Arts at the University for technology, design and arts A. N. Kosigin in Moscow. Between 1996 and 2003 she was a tutor at Varna Free University Chernorizets Hrabar.

Nikolina Kostova-Bogdanova is interested in working for performances in open air stages. Her work is inspired by the work of artists such as Ambrose Bierce, Coetzee, Basquiat, Eiko Ishioka. Her first work on theater stage was at Rhodope Drama Theater Nikolay Haytov, Smolyan in 2007 where she worked on the performance Macbeth, directed by Diana Dobreva. Her debut was nominated for the awards IKAR and ASKEER in 2008. 

Her career also comprises work in Photography; contributions to the PQ11 and PQ15 at the Bulgarian pavilion and to PQ11 in the section of Extreme Costume. She is a Scenographer and Costume Designer for Opera, Ballet and Theater performances at the Theaters in Varna, Plovdiv, Sofia, Stara Zagora and Smolyan. Since 2015 she is the main Visual Artist at the opera in Plovdiv. She has nominations for ASKEER for the Costume Design of Palaveevi Sisters (2015) and for the Scenography of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2022) – both directed also by Elena Panayotova.
